The Annual Gender Equality & Sport+ Conference, organised by the Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport, took place on 8 October 2024, in Lausanne, Switzerland. ENGSO Secretary General Sara Massini and EWS Committee member Sarah Townsend participated in the conference on behalf of ENGSO.
During the “Approaches to Enhance Inclusion and Participation session”, ENGSO SG Sara Massini presented the latest work of the EWS Committee, the survey about the impact of gender equality and LGBTIQ+ strategies, and the first, preliminary results of that survey. Entitled “Inclusion and participation: the power of data, the role of monitoring”, the presentation of ENGSO highlighted the importance of measuring the impact of policy documents and strategies on equality and diversity that have been published by the European Commission. The presentation is based on the survey and joint work ENGSO EWS Committee is implementing together with the Sport Unit of the European Commission, EPAS of the Council of Europe, and with the Global Observatory on Gender Equality. The Annual Conference of the Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport provided a collaborative platform for academics, associations, UN Agencies, International Sports Federations and partners to engage in meaningful discussions, share experiences, bring in various perspectives, and develop actionable strategies to promote gender equality in sports.
The theme of this year’s conference was “From Research to Action” with a primary focus on knowledge and data, measuring, tracking, monitoring methods and practices used in gender equality and sport.
Guest speakers presented how evidence, data and knowledge can be used to enhance the capacity of the sport sector to overcome gender inequalities.
The event also facilitated exploration of developments in data and research, address emerging challenges and innovations in gender equality work, and highlighted opportunities for collaboration to sustain collective efforts towards more inclusive Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Sport policy and practice around the world.
The Gender Equality & Sport+ Conference was a valuable opportunity to foster a collaborative environment where all participants can contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable sporting world.
Next year, the Gender Equality & Sport+ Conference will be held on 29-30 September 2025.
