history of ENGSO

ENGSO has been representing, developing and advocating for voluntary-based sport in Europe since its beginnings in 1966.

When governments started to deliberate on sports matters in the Council of Europe, the informal NGO Club, as a discussion forum, was set up in 1966 in order to join forces and define common sport political positions.

In 1990, the membership increased and the NGO Club became a true Pan-European sports organisation and changed its name to the European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO).
