Since its launch in 2015, the European Week of Sport has inspired millions to experience the physical, mental, and social benefits of sport and physical activity. Over the past decade, the initiative has evolved into a vibrant movement promoting healthier, more active lifestyles across Europe.
The 10th edition of EWoS officially opened on 23 September 2025 in Copenhagen, with ENGSO represented by Secretary General Sara Massini. The following day, 24 September, the Danish Presidency, in cooperation with the European Commission, hosted a sports conference highlighting the benefits of an active lifestyle and the role of sport in fostering well-being and inclusion.
Throughout the whole September, ENGSO and ENGSO Youth ran an online #BeActive campaign promoting key themes such as youth participation, sustainability, mental health, and the importance of regular physical activity.
On 24 September, ENGSO EWS hosted and facilitated an online European Stakeholder Consultation focused on gender equality and diversity in grassroots sport. The consultation addressed emerging challenges and threats to inclusivity in the context of current political and social developments in Europe and beyond.
On 25 September, ENGSO brought together organisers of women’s sports events and field experts for a focus group discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities in promoting and sustaining women’s sports initiatives across Europe.
Coaching shapes lives, unlocks potential, and inspires growth, but to truly serve people from all walks of life, the coaching profession itself must embrace diversity. On 24 September, A Fairer Coaching project team hosted an online seminar which explored the importance of amplifying women’s voices in coaching, creating spaces for coaches with disabilities to thrive, and taking practical steps toward building a more inclusive coaching culture.
In collaboration with Opes Italia, and with the support of European Parliament Vice President Antonella Sberna and the Representation of the European Commission in Italy, a series of activities culminated in the Viterbo Half Marathon.
The event welcomed over 2,000 participants, from competitive athletes to amateur runners, all united in celebrating physical activity and community spirit.
ENGSO and ENGSO Youth, as long-standing partners of the #BeActive campaign, supported OPES throughout the day and joined the parallel event “Run for All.” The occasion also enabled meaningful discussions with Vice President Antonella Sberna about the importance of youth involvement in promoting and organising local sports initiatives to amplify their impact on communities.
Within the EUYOUSPORT project, partners held the second national workshop in Rome (25–26 September 2025), hosted by ENGSO Youth member OPES. The workshop empowered young participants with practical tools and knowledge to advocate for stronger youth participation in sports governance.
Sessions covered themes such as youth engagement, sport governance structures at both European and national levels, and the importance of social inclusion, accessibility, and sustainable development in sports.
On 30 September 2025, ENGSO Youth hosted the first-ever joint meeting between the ENGSO Youth Alumni Club and the new group of Young Delegates (2025–2027). The gathering marked the beginning of a new chapter in intergenerational exchange, networking, and collaboration within the ENGSO Youth community.
As part of the Move4Nature project, where ENGSO Youth is an active partner, 14 local clean-up actions were organised across Europe to promote environmental sustainability through sport.
Kosovo Olympic Committee included a Move4Nature action in their annual event Generation 2008 run. Among many activities, participants also took part in a community walk combined with a trash-picking activity, demonstrating their commitment to a cleaner and greener environment. Forty young participants joined this initiative, linking sport and climate action in a meaningful way.
Move4Nature actions were also organised by ENGSO Youth Committee Chair Alessia (OPES) and Committee member Augustine (French Olympic Committee) and Young Delegates Maxime, Saskia, Anca, Paula and other.
Through its diverse initiatives, projects, and partnerships, ENGSO and ENGSO Youth continue to uphold the spirit of the #BeActive movement — fostering inclusion, sustainability, and youth empowerment through sport.
The 10th anniversary of the European Week of Sport stands as a milestone, not only in celebrating achievements but also in inspiring continued action for a more active, inclusive, and sustainable Europe.
