The Political Pulse: Emerging Challenges to Gender and Sport
During this interactive online seminar and together with experts in the field, we will explore the current situation of gender equality and diversity in grassroots sport, in the context of current political developments across Europe and globally.
On this occasion and together with participants and speakers, ENGSO EWS is ready to “Orange the World”. On International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25. November), this event will mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, managed by UN Women, in which ENGSO is a proud partner.
The United Nations General Assembly, through Resolution 54/134, designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The day is observed to raise global awareness of the fact that women continue to face rape, domestic abuse, and other forms of violence. It also seeks to draw attention to how the scope and true extent of these violations are often concealed or underreported.
Katri Jalonen, advocacy specialist at the National Council of Women of Finland, focuses on the anti-gender movement and its impacts in the Finnish context. Outside of their day job, they coach climbing, which gives them a two-sided expertise on the topic of anti-gender movements in sport.
