INAMOS project develops e-learning resources for sport clubs on integration of newly arrived migrants through sport

Project INAMOS is coming to an end. On 27-28 April 2023, the final coordination meeting will be held in Odense (Denmark) with an aim to conclude the activities that have been implemented over a span of three years, from 2020 to 2022.

9 partners from 5 different countries and 2 associated partners from Canada and Australia were involved: in total, 3 different continents contributed to the activities and the data collection of the project.

The general mission for the INAMOS project was to deliver knowledge that can further mobilise the sport sector’s motivation and ability to integrate newly arrived migrants into organised sport and society at large, without jeopardising the integrity and ability of local sports clubs through requirements that exceed their resources and capabilities. By being a volunteering sport club, it may in fact impact their nature and it’s important to create a safe space for everyone instead.

Why are voluntary sport clubs viewed as the main target group of the project? Because a sport club membership is usually accompanied by long-term, regular participation; almost always along with other members and often accompanied by social activities that help develop a variety of intercultural skills.

“How to work on the ability to integrate large numbers of newly arrived migrants (NAM)?” remains a key challenge and question for EU member states. The objective of INAMOS in this sense was to propose and support more effective policies and practices to help integrate a large number of newly arrived migrants, either temporarily or permanently into the host society.

In the past 3 years ENGSO has been part of the work that lead to complete an extensive research and comparative analysis of political frameworks regarding conditions, initiatives, programmes or roll-out strategies across different EU member states that foster social integration of newly arrived migrants (NAMs) in Voluntary Sports Clubs.

All this with the final aim of offering to the clubs support for strengthening their abilities to implement systematic integration practices, while protecting them from unrealistic and overwhelming expectations.
