EWS Committee gathers for a meeting in Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal, 12 October 2023

The EWS Committee members met during the European Sport Platform (ESP) 2023 to discuss their upcoming activities.

Women in sport & intersectionality

The EWS committee commissioned research on the status of equality within sport by focusing on the intersectionality aspect of the LGBTQI+ community in Europe and a specific attention is given to women in sports (age, sexual orientation, gender identity). The results, which will be published in November, will serve as a basis for further education, awareness raising and change campaigns in European grassroots sport to promote visibility, equality, and inclusion in sport.

Save the date!

The results of this study will be presented and discussed during the next EWS online seminar on November 28th at 13:00 CET. The registration link will be shared shortly.

Communication & events

Other EWS activities include the ongoing “Sport for Equality Role Models” communication campaign, which highlights individual experiences related to being a woman with disability, a LBTQI+ woman, or a male ally for gender equality in grassroots sport. You can already read about the stories from Erik van Haaren and Nina Portolan.

In the framework of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, ENGSO will participate and speak at the Ministerial Conference on Gender Equality (14-15 November, Madrid, Spain). This will be the occasion to discuss with other European stakeholders on potantial gaps and overlaps when it comes to advancing gender equality in sport in Europe (meeting on 13 November).

Finally, in December, ENGSO will share more about its work on equality, diversity and inclusion in its next “Equality newsletter”. If you want to subscribe and join the network, or if you want to share your upcoming events or on-going activities, please contact [email protected].
