The summit gathered all major European sport stakeholders committed to improving equality in sport: the Sport Unit of the European Commission, Council of Europe’s Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS), European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the EOC’s EU Office, Global Observatory for Gender Equality and Sport, European University Sports Association (EUSA), European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) and IWG Women in Sport.
ENGSO was represented by ENGSO EWS Chair Sallie Barker, ENGSO EWS vice Chair Tarja Krum, ENGSO Secretary General Sara Massini, ENGSO Office Director Marie Denitton and EWS researcher Angelica Saenz.
During the summit, the participants discussed the common work with the aim of improving Equality and Diversity in sport, designing a shared plan, and coordinating the joint efforts during 2024. Shared calendar was created to collect all information related to the events on equality and diversity in sport in Europe. This calendar will be accessible to everyone on the ENGSO’s webpage. ENGSO is also coordinating the European stakeholder table on equality in diversity in sport through events like the summit.
In 2024, we will collect data on gender equality in sport and conduct a survey with the aim to research the impact of the “High Level Group on Gender Equality on Sport” publication and the European Commission’s LGBTQI+ Equality Strategy 2020-2025. The activity is implemented with joint efforts from the Sport Unit of the European Commission, Council of Europe EPAS and Global Observatory for Gender Equality and Sport. The survey will also be available online.
The outcomes of ENGSO this survey will be complementary to the outcomes of the All In Plus project which is coordinated by Council of Europe EPAS with joint effort from the Sport Unit of the European Commission.
The result of the research will be presented at the end of 2024 and will become content for the next European Summit on Gender Equality and Diversity in Sport to be implemented in 2025.
