European Parliament adopts negotiating position on Erasmus+ 2028–2034

The European Parliament has approved its negotiating position proposing a €47.39 billion budget for Erasmus+ in 2028–2034, compared with the European Commission’s €40.8 billion proposal. The position proposes allocating 4.1% of the budget to sport, up from 1.9% under the current programme, and introduces minimum funding allocations.

For sport, the proposals emphasise grassroots sport, health promotion and opportunities for athletes and people active in grassroots sport to participate in mobility activities. The position will now serve as the basis for negotiations with the Council.

ENGSO has advocated for increased real-term funding, dedicated sport funding and safeguards for grassroots organisations, particularly smaller and volunteer-led clubs. Through its participation in the Erasmus+ Coalition and direct engagement with policymakers, ENGSO brings the grassroots sport perspective to joint advocacy for a strong and accessible programme and supports efforts to improve inclusion and participation for people with fewer opportunities.
