ENGSO participates in Belgian Presidency of the Council thematic conference on non-organised sport

On 20-21 February in Genval, the Belgian presidency of the Council of the European Union organized a thematic conference on the topic of non-organised sport and free physical activity.

ENGSO was represented at the conference in Genval by the ENGSO policy assistant Nerijus Tabokas, seeking to explore synergies between non-organised and organised sports.

Over two days, five panel sessions were organized, bringing together a diverse group of speakers from academia, public institutions, and other non-governmental organizations. ENGSO takes note of the discussions at the conference surrounding the role of non-organised sport in the European sport model. To this end, the model as advocated in ENGSO’s position paper and endorsed by the Council resolution on the key features of the European sport model must be preserved. In particular, sports clubs are the backbone of the model and form the foundation of sport structures across European countries.

Lastly, ENGSO will continue to collaborate with the Belgian presidency to provide relevant input on grassroots sport-related matters
