ENGSO, represented by Communications Manager Polona Fonda, was among the organisations invited to contribute to the discussion. As the umbrella organisation representing National Olympic Committees, National Sport Federations and National Paralympic Committees, with a focus on organised grassroots sport, ENGSO shared its experience as a long-standing partner of the European Week of Sport and presented recommendations for its future development.
The dialogue focused on ways to simplify the implementation of the initiative, improve accessibility, and strengthen its impact across Europe. Key themes included the importance of multiannual planning, greater flexibility in implementation, more efficient data collection, and increased support for participating organisations.
ENGSO has been a partner of the European Week of Sport since its launch in 2015. Each year, the initiative takes place from 23 to 30 September, bringing together thousands of events across Europe that promote physical activity, health, inclusion, volunteering, and the positive values of sport. A new addition to the initiative, the European Week of Winter Sport, will make its debut in February 2027.
The Implementation Dialogues are a key element of the European Commission’s new approach to better implementation and simplification. Through these high-level consultations, stakeholders have the opportunity to assess progress towards policy objectives, exchange experiences, and identify areas where further improvements are needed.
ENGSO would like to thank Commissioner Glenn Micallef and the European Commission’s Sport Unit for the opportunity to contribute to this important dialogue, share its experience, and reaffirm the vital role that sport continues to play in strengthening individuals, communities, and society across Europe.
