ENGSO kicks off new Erasmus+ partnership: Sport for Unity, Resilience and Empowerment (SURE)
SURE project is a big collaborative Erasmus+ funded partnership which aims to enhance and test a model of cooperation to build the resilience of the organized sport movement and ensure the societal role of sport for stronger communities, focusing on the access to sport for the most vulnerable socio-economic groups, with the aim to be better equipped to face crisis (energy, displacement, pandemic).
SURE started on 1 January 2024 and will continue for 36 months, until 31 December 2026.
During the first online meeting, which was held on 16 February 2024 and included 11 partners and 5 associated partners from 13 countries, the partners had the opportunity to meet and connect, and discuss the aim and objectives of the project, key role each partner and associate partner will play, visual identity and outline the future agenda. The first on-site meeting will take place on 29-30 April 2024 in Azores, Portugal.
During the next three years, SURE will project address the following questions:
How could the grassroots sport movement be more accessible?
How can sports be more affordable?
How can sport prevent dropout in times of crisis?
This project will pay specific attention to the most vulnerable socio-economic groups that are underrepresented in sport and physical activity, voicing their experiences in the construction of the deliverables and bearing in mind the intersectionality of discriminations.

Build knowledge on the success/limits of existing cooperation models between sport organizations and actors from their local realities.
Create spaces within the organized sport movement to hear the voices, needs and experiences of people coming from lower socio-economic backgrounds, with special attention to those facing multiple discriminations.
Enhance a model of cooperation for a successful and sustainable inclusion of the most vulnerable socio-economic groups in order to ensure the societal role of sport in local communities and build resilience of the organized sport movement.
Encourage the development and implementation of joint activities/events withdifferent actors.
Strengthen the dialogue between different stakeholders.
