ENGSO EWS Committee Meets with Kosovo Stakeholders to Advance Gender Equality in Sport
On November 21, 2024, the ENGSO Equality Within Sport (EWS) Committee convened in Pristina, Kosovo, for the EU-Balkan Networking Event on Gender Equality and Diversity, hosted by the National Olympic Committee of Kosovo at the Sports House.
Key stakeholders—including Kosovo Women’s Network, UN Women, Kosovar Center for Gender Studies, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, DemSport, Special Olympics, Kosovo Paralympic Committee, and NOC Kosovo—came together for the first time to share their goals, challenges, and ambitions for gender equality in sports.
The event opened with a welcome by Rejhan Halili, Head of International Relations NOC Kosovo and EWS Committee member, followed by a presentation of the ENGSO EWS Committee’s work from Chair Tarja Krum. Stakeholders then presented their initiatives, highlighting the amazing work being done across Kosovo.
A dynamic discussion led to the formation of a new coalition of stakeholders, united in their mission to advance gender equality in Kosovo’s sports landscape. The NOC Kosovo will coordinate this coalition, which will soon define its working terms and primary actions—with the support of ENGSO and the EWS Committee.
Together, we’re building stronger partnerships for a more inclusive and equitable future in sports!
Before the European Sport Platform 2024 organised in Pristina, Kosovo, the ENGSO EWS Committee also held a meeting to monitor their 2024 work plan, to align the efforts and evaluate the ongoing research on the implementation of European policies on equality and diversity at the grassroots level, and to nominate external experts whose contribution will be valuable for the EWS 2025 initiatives.
Finally, members congratulated Sarah Townsend for her appointment by the ENGSO Executive Committee as the EWS Committee Vice-Chair. The last EWS Committee meeting will be held online in December to adopt the 2025 work plan on equality and diversity in sport.
