ENGSO EWS Committee at the EuroGames Nijmegen 2022

EuroGames Nijmegen 2022 is an LGBTQI+ inclusive sporting event that hosts 17 different sports and more than 2000 athletes of all levels. The 2022 edition of the games took place in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, on 27-30 July 2022.

ENGSO Equality in Sport (EWS) Committee member Tarja Krum and ENGSO Equality in sport researcher Anne Schomöller attended the event to initiate a survey and conduct interviews with athletes on the topic of LGBTQI+ in sport, and to strengthen the cooperation with ENGSO associated member and the driving force behind the EuroGames – the European Gay & Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF).

The aim of the survey and the interviews is to research and collect data on the current state of LGBTQI+ within European sport, specifically focusing on the LBTQ women. The data will be analysed and the results will be presented during the ENSE conference in Portugal 2022 and during the European Sport Platform in the Netherlands.

Those activities are initiated within the framework of the Action plan for the Equality in sport which is led and implemented by the ENGSO EWS Committee. At the Games, and with a support of Sarah Townsend, EGLSF Co-president and ENGSO EWS Committee member, the team also introduced and informed the participants about this particular action plan and its objectives, and presented the work and the mission of the ENGSO EWS committee.

If you would like to participate in our questionnaire and share your opinion or experience on the topic of LGBTQI+ in sport, please send a short note to ENGSO Equality in sport researcher Anne Schomöller [email protected].
