As the official partner of the European Sport Congress (EUSC), ENGSO had the opportunity to participate in this international event that gathered stakeholders from all over Europe to showcase the best of what is being done in sport research, development, and innovation.
As a guest speaker, ENGSO project manager and ENGSO Youth Committee member Alessia De Iulis, presented the work of ENGSO EWS Committee in the field of equality and inclusion, during the second day of the event which revolved around before-mentioned topics. Day one of the congress was dedicated to the topic of sustainability.
This was a great opportunity to look back at the EWS initiatives in 2022, such as the #StandUp4Equality communication campaign, the series of online seminars, and the publication of a learning document on the inclusion of transwomen. Alessia presented the results of the research that collected up-to-date data regarding the LGBTQI+ community in the sport setting and the recommendations published to increase the participation and improve the experience of LGBTQI+ participants in grassroots sport.
In 2023, the EWS continues the work focusing on intersectionality and specific attention is given to women in sports. The results will be published at the end of the year and serve as a basis to develop education and awareness-raising material.
The inagural edition of the European Sport Congress took place on 20-22 September 2023, in Gijón, Spain, organised by Municipality of Gijón, representing the hosting city, the University of Oviedo as the academic partner and the Spanish Olympic Committee. Under the pillars of “share, connect and learn”, the EUSC was an opportunity to foster collaboration amongst institutions within the European sport ecosystem and increase skills and knowledge on sport priorities.
